Quite honestly, I wasn't really interested in Austria until a few years ago, when I began exploring my family heritage. My grandmother was born in Austria and fled to Israel before the Holocaust, while the rest of her family were thrown onto trains and sent to the death camps. Many people - especially Jewish friends - ask how I could ever forgive the Austrians for this very dark era in their national history, let alone sell tours to Austria. It is a good question, with which I have grappled quite a bit.

Considering the Austrians of today had nothing to do with the Holocaust and, considering Austria's truly remarkable efforts to memorialize not just the Austrian victims of the Holocaust but to emphasize their specific role in it, I decided it was time to embrace this part of my heritage and replace the resentment with love and national pride. It is, after all, who I am.

Austria is such an incredibly beautiful country, filled with so much history, natural wonders and people whom I believe to be the friendliest in all of Europe. "All of Europe" is how Austria can easily be defined, as far as tourism goes. That's because in Austria, you can pretty much experience the whole continent. From the majestic streets of Vienna and Salzburg to the snow-capped Tyrol Mountains, from art museums and concert halls to excellent restaurants, from historical sites to modern infrastructure, from large lakes to highspeed trains that go everywhere. It's no wonder Austria is home and inspiration to some of the world's most famous musicians, artists and philosophers!
